There are two types of abortion you can choose from: surgical abortion and medical abortion. The differences between the two are explained below.
Assessing your abortion options
Once you have made the decision to have an abortion, our team at Marie Stopes International is happy to discuss your options with you. These may depend on the gestation of your pregnancy, your general health, current state abortion laws and, naturally, your personal preferences. The different pregnancy termination options will be discussed in full during your consultation so you can make an informed choice.
Types of abortion range from a simple surgical procedure under local anaesthetic, which only requires a short visit to a centre, to a general anaesthetic procedure. This is known as a surgical abortion. In early pregnancy you may also choose to have a medical abortion. This is achieved using medication and avoids the need for surgery.
